Nidecker Area 2017-2018 Snowboard Review | The Snowboard Asylum

Emanating from the Nidecker stable, probably the most successful carving board manufacturer in the history of the sport, comes the all new Area. This stunning new board shares the same Freecarve inspired profile as the ground-breaking Concept series, but instead of packing it full of high end materials Nidecker have utilised a softer and more playful construction. This delivers that effortless grin inducing ride both on piste and in the pow that made boards like the original Hovercraft so popular, and like that original Hovercraft it’s priced at a level where you can afford to add one to your quiver.

Built around a fully directional shape it utilises the new state of the art Round/Square nose profile and Round/Fish tail. This unique design, extends the contact points into the low swing weight nose, creating a floaty front end without compromising turn initiation. Add to this the short responsive tail which not only increases drive out the turn but also helps sink the back in the pow and you can see why the Area is such a great board in these environments. Now as you would expect, the Area utilises a traditional camber profile. This drives energy out of the contact points and along the length of the board ensuring that the 8m sidecut delivers lightning fast response and a solid and unbelievably satisfying hold through the turn.

Internally the Area utilises Nidecker’s Premium Sandwich construction, headed up with the responsive Master Core. This combines poplar, beech, spruce and paulownia to create a dynamic and powerful flex through the length. To this Nidecker then add structural layers formed from their exclusive Dual-Plus Bi-Ax glass fibre, giving the Area its playful torsional flex which creates that unique fun ride that makes this board so special. Finally, the low maintenance Extruded 6000 base gives great glide without constantly having to worry about waxing.
