Bataleon Carver 2017-2018 Snowboard Review | The Snowboard Asylum

As the trend towards carving boards continues to gain momentum, it was always going to be a case of when rather than if that Bataleon would enter the fray. After all their unique triple base profile was invented to improve how a board performs on its edge. Well, for 17/18 they’ve jumped in with both feet and have introduced (wait for it) the Carver.

Built around a fully directional tapered shape, this totally stunning board is aimed at those riders who are looking for a high-end snowboard that will perform at the very highest level. Heading up the Carvers impressive on piste credentials is its advanced cambered Freeride 3BT base profile with sidekicks. This unique version of the triple base profile been specifically tuned to deliver stunning performance in the turn. By combining a narrow centre flat base with extended side base sections, and the additional rise of the SideKick technology in the nose, the Carver delivers lightning fast turn initiation and a level of stability through the turn that is nothing short of remarkable. This is then matched with a shortened low uplift 3BT profile in the tail which allows you to really sit out the turn without losing any power and drive.

But that’s not all, the Carver has one extra trick up its sleeve that makes it an absolute dream on piste. Bataleon have stayed away from that trap of making the Carver narrow, instead they’ve added extra width eliminating toe and heel drag and ensuring that this is one board that really will let you lay out those turns, and that’s even before we start talking about that extra stability when you just want to point the nose and let it run.

Internally the Carver is all about performance and heading this up is the advanced Reactor Light core. This lightweight wood core is constructed from a combination of poplar and paulownia, but it’s the addition of bamboo stringers along the edges that really power it up. Add to this the lightweight Tri-Ax Plus structural layers and tip to tail carbon stringers and it’s plain to see that the Carver really does mean business. Finally, and as you would expect, Bataleon fit the board with a superfast Ultra-Glide S 7000 grade base, ensuring that no matter the conditions you’re always going to be the fastest rider out there.
