The old timers I grew up around wore a a light to medium glove under a set of mittens called choppers. Usually made of leather or deer hide and lined with felted wool. That is the system I used when I lived in Michigan. Since relocating to Kentucky glomitts have been my choice. I like how I can termal regulate or quickly get my fingers free for a task by pulling back the mitten part.

Nice job. I wear gloves when hiking and once camp is set up mittens. Haven’t found a glove yet that will allow me to unite knots with them on. Any suggestions?

I suggest leather gloves but ones made for cold weather.
