Best Powder Boards of 2016/2017 – Never Summer Swift Review

Inspired by the early days of backcountry riding and vintage shapes, Never Summer’s Swift is a modern take on a pointed-tip swallowtail. Aside from being incredibly light, the first characteristic we noticed once strapped in was the soft torsional flex and rockered middle section that let us bow the nose upward with ease. Initially the board felt almost too soft, like it would wash out of turns, but once we dropped in, the board transformed and bit into turns while remaining stable. We attribute this to the carbon fiber “X” layup between the bindings and carbon “V”s in the tip in tail, which accentuate pop and edge-hold without making the board overly stiff.

The profile mix of camber in the tips and rocker between the feet offered each foot independent flex and control, kind of like a left and right, or gas and brake pedal. Riders familiar to this profile should have no problem charging in the pow. However, if you’re used to more traditional camber profiles, it might take a few runs to get used to. The tapered shape and massive nose chewed up chatter, and combined with the setback stance and swallowtail, it planed atop soft snow with speed and ease. Riders looking for an easy-to-ride retro powder shape with modern tech, this is your ride.
